The history of

 VICTORY CHRISTIAN TABERNACLE

Victory held its’ first service on Sunday night, August 2, 1987 in Brooklyn, NY.  On that day, Pastor Roberta Moore and a small group of her family members joyously marched into 212 Buffalo Avenue and began to establish a wonderful work for the Lord.  At that time, the name used by the congregants was Victory Pentecostal Church and they ministered under the umbrella of the St. Mark Holy Church of America, Inc. of which the late Bishop Nathanial Townsley, Sr. was Pastor.

This young team of Christian workers labored long and hard in the Crown Heights Community, preaching, teaching, praying and singing all to the glory of God.  They drew many young people to the church and countless lives were changed.

The expense of renting a sanctuary became overwhelming for this primarily adolescent congregation so Victory sought the help of Pastor Benton and Rose of Sharon Church.  Rose of Sharon was a few doors down and gladly welcomed them to use their facility at no charge.  The two churches worshipped at different times in the same building for over a year.

Then in 1992, God opened a door and provided Victory Pentecostal Church with a loft at 2 Buffalo Avenue.  This is where the manifold blessings began to pour in.  It began with the Lord adding dedicated, spirit-filled tithing adult workers to the membership that were committed to spreading of the Gospel of Jesus Christ and the building of the Victory ministry.  Shortly thereafter, God spoke to the Pastor and said “No longer will you be called Victory Pentecostal Church.  I am giving you a new name. You will be called Victory Christian Tabernacle - a triumphant house of worship.”

In 1994, Victory formally incorporated, established boards and various departments, and the Lord called ministerial and operational workers into the Victory vineyard.  Stewards, Missionaries, Deacons, Ushers, Choirs, and other auxiliaries began to develop and work together as one cohesive member of the body of Christ.  On October 9, 1994, Victory ordained its first ministers: Evangelist Lydia Blassingame, Rev. Edwin Guy, Minister Elizabeth Skinner, and the late Minister Barbara Smith.  This team of faithful individuals served under Pastor Moore to create a unified base of anointed teachers, preachers, and spiritual counselors.

The establishment of a Board of Elders came a few years later in 1999.  This board of three (Elder Roberta Moore, Elder Lydia Blassingame, and Elder Edwin Guy) served as the spiritual and doctrinal governing body for the church.

In the year 2000, the Lord’s hand moved once again upon Victory and increased the ministerial staff by adding Minister Medrina Lloyd and Evangelist Deborah McLoud to the team.

Victory was lead to move to a temporary location in November 2002 while they began looking for a property they could call their own.  They worshipped at Holy Trinity Universal Church where the Late Bishop Clarence Dorsey was Pastor and then in the Community Room at the Ebbets Field Apartment Complex.

Finally the Lord said “Seek no more, for I have a new dwelling place for you” and on March 12, 2004 Victory Christian Tabernacle purchased 134A Newport Street in the Brownsville section of Brooklyn NY.  Victory was blessed to purchase this building without having to finance a mortgage.

In 2003, the Lord called on Rev. Guy to establish a separate ministry in Hempstead, NY.  It began with Sunday School classes in his home and quickly blossomed into a fully-functional church.  Although an autonomous legal entity, the church retained the name Victory Christian Tabernacle.  With Rev. Lloyd joining him in April of 2007, this ministry continues to spread the Good News of Jesus Christ on Long Island.

These two sister churches fellowship periodically throughout the year and provide the light of the Lord in their respective communities.  Come and be a part…

To God be the glory.  Great things He has done!
